You may wonder, Kaprun? Kaprun is a town in the Zell am See district in Austria. Kaprun is a popular ski area. However, I went in October and not to go skiing. In this blog a will tell you what you can do in Kaprun outside the winter sport season.
During our stay in Kaprun I slept in the hotel Das Alpenhaus. A nice centrally located hotel with excellent facilities. A few activities I did during my stay;
A 50 minutes drive from Kaprun will bring you to the famous Krimmler waterfall. You can walk uphill through an easily accessible path. There’re some beautiful viewpoints during the way up where you can see the waterfall and take some pictures. The waterfall falls down from 380 meters. If you’ve seen many waterfalls this is not a really special one but a waterfall is always beautiful to see.
National Park Hohe Tauern & Grossglockner
Hohe Tauern National Park is characterized by the Grossglockner. This mountain is the highest mountain in Austria at 3798 meters. You don’t have to climb this mountain to admire its beauty. You can drive the 48 km long Grossglockner panoramic route. This route, the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse almost leads to the top of the mountain. The route has several beautiful viewpoints where you can stop to enjoy the view. Besides the Grossglockner, Hohe Tauern offers a lot for hikers. There’re plenty of options for outdoor enthusiasts. You can find hiking trails, long distance trails and thematic trails. I didn’t hike here this time but did the panoramic route and it was incredible!
You can bring a visit to the largest ice cave in the world! It’s an hour drive from Kaprun to the town of Werfen where you can find this large ice cave. At the Eisriesenwelt you can join a tour to the largest ice cave in the world. Buy a ticket and you can proceed to the entrance of the cave. The guided tour is a great experience. The guide did his job with passion, he told the group I was in so much about the cave. It was certainly worth a visit.
So even outside the winter season you can do all sorts of fun things in Kaprun!
